A little note about Kaela

Here is my girl, Kaela. Eleven year old SHF enjoys long walks on the beach, eating bamboo blinds, and dreaming of kitties/varmint to play with and/or eat.

She is quite content resting in the yard all day, unless she realizes that I'm not paying attention, and then she bolts over, under, or through the fence to wreak havoc in the neighborhood. So far, I've been pretty decent at keeping her at close bay.

She looks like a sweetheart, but don't let those puppy dog eyes fool you.

Little Orphaned Kitties

Nursing little newborn kitties is hard work. But look at how adorable they are today.

These kitties were found on Sunday morning. The stray momma had abandoned the litter and unfortunately, three were sacrificed to the dog before we could save these two. Honestly though, I can't even begin to imagine caring for five newborns.

Keith was a hero in all of this (briefly). He lifted some heavy wood and we were able to save kitty #1. Kitty #2 was lodged among the wood pile.

Supposedly only 50% of kitties nursed by humans survive. I hope our odds are slightly better.

They've been rejecting the bottle, so I have to nearly force kitten formula into them with an eyedropper. They don't like it too much.

At this point, all they do is eat(barely), pee, and sleep. Oh yeah, and cry. They cry like mo-fos.

Kaela seems to understand that they are part of our family and not to be eaten. However, she's not to be trusted with them alone. They look like little drowned mice right now, and Kaela loves to chase after varmints.

Kichu and Jita don't seem to care much for the kitties either. When they're old enough I suppose we'll see plenty of cat fights, vying for queen kitty.

Jah Kitties

My kitties fill me with love.
Even when one of them climbs 40 feet up a tree and is stuck for 24 hours.
Luckily, Kichu (b/w) is still with us.

I am a gardner...

Not really a great one, as I'm just beginning this horticultural/agricultural adventure. The cantaloupe already passed, but the brussel sprouts seem to be thriving. Boyd gave me some EcoNeem so I hope I can become more of an organic farmer rather than use all that toxic pesticide I used in the past. (you know, last week)

The flowers I have planted, specifically the verbenas, just don't seem to mesh well with me. I killed some last spring/summer and it looks like the ones I planted this year all seem to be on a downward spiral to their death. What am I doing wrong??

Hey, wouldn't you like to relax here?
^^^ That is not my garden, but what I am striving for.
